What happens to creators

  • Your underlying Vimeo videos stay in your account under your plan’s storage terms.
  • Your VOD pages go offline, so every link to them breaks.
  • You can still edit existing VOD pages until November 20.

What happens to buyers

  • They can stream at vimeo.com/purchases until November 20. Rentals end on their original expiry or that date, whichever is first.
  • Purchases can’t move to another platform, and refunds aren’t automatic.
  • They keep a copy only if you enabled downloads.
Is Vimeo shutting down?

No. Only On Demand closes. Vimeo’s main hosting platform continues, and Vimeo says it is moving resources to its core products.

Before you choose

What to look for in a Vimeo On Demand alternative

You’re moving because a vendor changed direction. Check these eight things so you don’t have to move again.

  • Content protectionOn your own site, anyone with browser developer tools can try to pull the stream. Private links don’t stop that; Widevine and FairPlay DRM do.
  • Ownership of your customersVimeo held your buyer list. Keep every email and purchase record somewhere you control.
  • Branding and domainCustomers should watch on your domain, in your player, with no other company’s logo.
  • Fees on every salePer-subscriber fees and sales percentages grow with you. Model your costs at your real volume.
  • AnalyticsWatch time, completion and drop-off per viewer, not just view counts.
  • API and integrationsVideo should plug into your website, LMS or app.
  • Migration helpWho moves the files, how long it takes, what it costs.
  • Vendor focusOn Demand closed while Vimeo carried on. Ask whether video is the vendor’s core product.
Before and after

Vimeo On Demand vs TPStreams

TPStreams is a secure video hosting and streaming platform from Testpress Tech Labs in Chennai. It isn’t a marketplace. As a Vimeo On Demand replacement, it delivers your videos inside your own website, app or LMS.

Why TPStreams

Why TPStreams works as a Vimeo On Demand replacement

Your videos stay protected once they leave Vimeo’s storefront

DRM is included on every plan, including the $150 Start plan.

  • Widevine and FairPlay DRM. TPStreams is a direct Google Widevine partner.
  • Per-session forensic watermark with the viewer’s user ID, email or IP
  • Short-lived playback tokens and domain restriction stop link sharing
  • AES-256 encryption at rest, ISO 27001 and SOC 2 Type II

Shankar IAS Academy and Insights on India both moved from Vimeo to TPStreams for DRM.

You keep your customers, on your own site

Your buyers sign up and pay on your site or LMS, so their emails and purchase records sit in your system. You’ll never be limited to an opt-in export again.

The player carries your logo and colours, never TPStreams’. Embed it with an iframe or build it into your apps with SDKs for JavaScript, Android, iOS, React and Flutter. REST APIs and webhooks cover uploads, playback tokens and analytics.

No revenue share on your sales

TPStreams pricing is a flat plan fee, with delivery, storage, DRM, transcoding, AI subtitles and live streaming on one bill. TPStreams doesn’t process your payments, so it takes no cut of your sales. Usage above your allowance bills at published overage rates.

Indian businesses are billed in INR with a GST invoice. Insights on India halved its annual video spend after moving off Vimeo.

A migration measured in weeks, not a rebuild

You point the TPStreams team at your library and they pull, transcode and package it. Migration transcoding is free on annual and multi-year plans, so a large back catalogue costs nothing extra to move.

Vidyakul moved off a specialist DRM platform in two months, and Utkarsh Classes migrated and scaled to 800 live classes a day in three.

Migration plan

How to migrate from Vimeo On Demand in 6 steps

  1. Back up your original files Today

Vimeo isn’t deleting your videos, but keep copies you control. From each video’s settings in your Vimeo library, download the highest-quality file available. Save the trailer, artwork, subtitles, description and price in one folder per title, and spot-check that files play.

  2. Export customer and sales data Before Nov 20

    • Sales data: export it from your Vimeo analytics dashboard.
    • Buyer emails: in your VOD page settings, open the Audience tab, click Export email addresses and accept Vimeo’s Acceptable Use Email Policy. Only opted-in viewers are included.
    • Add contacts you already hold elsewhere: newsletter subscribers, social followers, past students.
  3. Set up your TPStreams library

Upload MP4, MOV or MKV files by drag and drop, API or an embedded uploader. Turn on DRM, set domain restrictions and brand the player. For a large catalogue, ask the team to handle the bulk transfer. Test playback on Chrome, Safari, an iPhone and an Android phone before announcing anything.

TPStreams live class with DVR rewind and watch-time stats
  4. Rebuild the viewing and buying experience

Decide where customers will buy: your website with a payment gateway, an LMS, or a membership plugin. Embed the player on pages only logged-in buyers can reach, and have your backend issue short-lived playback tokens so a copied link won’t play. Rentals become time-limited access; VOD subscriptions become recurring plans.

  5. Tell your buyers where to go

    • Email your opted-in list: the November 20 date, where their content now lives and how to get access.
    • Give existing buyers free access on your new setup. Their Vimeo purchases can’t transfer, and goodwill now protects future sales.
    • Edit your VOD page descriptions, which you can still do until November 20, to point visitors to your new address.
    • Post and pin the news on social, then send reminders a week before the deadline and on the day.
  6. Redirect old links

You can’t redirect vimeo.com addresses, because Vimeo controls them. Instead:

    • Update every place you’ve linked your VOD page: website, email signatures, link-in-bio, YouTube descriptions, ads, press kits, course PDFs.
    • On your own site, 301-redirect old “watch” or “buy” pages to the new pages so you keep their search rankings.
    • Search your site and email templates for “vimeo.com/ondemand” to catch stragglers.

Avoid these

Four migration mistakes to avoid

Waiting for November 20

Exports and buyer emails depend on your VOD pages still being live.

Choosing on headline price

A low monthly plan with per-subscriber or per-sale fees can cost more than a flat plan once you have a few hundred buyers.

Leaving buyers stranded

They’ll blame you, not Vimeo. A free-access grant costs little and keeps their trust.

Forgetting your links

Old VOD URLs in emails, PDFs and ads keep sending people to a dead page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best Vimeo On Demand alternative?

TPStreams is the best Vimeo On Demand alternative for course, coaching and training businesses that sell through their own website, app or LMS. It includes Widevine and FairPlay DRM, forensic watermarking and live streaming on every plan from $150 a month, takes no cut of your sales, and bills Indian businesses in INR.

When does Vimeo On Demand shut down?

Vimeo On Demand fully shuts down on November 20, 2026. Vimeo stopped accepting new uploads on August 22 and new purchases and subscriptions on September 21, 2026. On November 20, all storefronts go offline and buyers lose streaming access to everything they bought or rented through Vimeo On Demand.

Will my videos be deleted when Vimeo On Demand shuts down?

No. Vimeo says your underlying Vimeo videos will not be deleted because of the shutdown. They stay in your Vimeo account under your plan's storage terms. What disappears is your On Demand storefront, your VOD pages and your buyers' access, so back up files and export sales data before November 20.

Can I keep selling videos after the shutdown?

Not through Vimeo On Demand, where new sales ended on September 21, 2026. You can keep selling through your own website, app or LMS and stream with a secure video hosting platform like TPStreams, which adds DRM and forensic watermarking, takes no cut of your sales and keeps customers with you.

Can I move my Vimeo On Demand buyers to a new platform?

Not automatically. Vimeo says purchases can't be transferred, and it only lets you export emails of viewers who opted in, from the Audience tab of your VOD page settings. Email that list before November 20, then give those buyers free access on your new platform so they don't lose what they paid for.

Does TPStreams include DRM on every plan?

Yes. Widevine and FairPlay DRM are included on every TPStreams plan, starting with the $150 Start plan. Every plan also includes per-session forensic watermarking with the viewer's user ID, email or IP, short-lived playback tokens and domain restriction, so copied links won't play and leaked recordings can be traced to an account.

Does TPStreams take a cut of my sales?

No. TPStreams doesn't process your payments, so it takes no percentage of your sales. You pay a flat monthly plan that covers delivery, storage, DRM, transcoding, AI subtitles and live streaming. Usage above your allowance bills at published overage rates, and Indian businesses can pay in INR with a GST invoice.

Can I use TPStreams with my own website or LMS?

Yes. You can embed the TPStreams player with an iframe or build playback into your apps with SDKs for JavaScript, Android, iOS, React and Flutter. REST APIs and webhooks cover uploads, playback tokens and analytics, so buyers watch on your own domain, in a player that carries your logo and colours.

How much does TPStreams cost?

TPStreams plans start at $150 a month for Start, which includes 750 GB delivery, 150 GB storage, 55,000 DRM licences and 24 live hours. Pro is $450, Growth $1,350 and Scale $4,050 a month, with custom pricing above 90 TB of delivery or one million DRM licences.

Can TPStreams move my Vimeo library for me?

Yes. You point the TPStreams team at your library and they pull, transcode and package it, and migration transcoding is free on annual and multi-year plans. Download your original files and export your buyer emails from Vimeo before November 20, so you keep copies of everything you need.
