Why teams switch to TPStreams
Nobody changes video platforms for fun. It touches every course, every app build and every student. Teams move when something breaks badly enough that the migration becomes the smaller problem.
Reason 01 · Exposure
Content protection that was never really there
The most expensive discovery is that your video was never protected in the first place.
Masking a YouTube URL inside an app is not protection — it is obscurity. Signed HLS links without DRM are not protection either. Both work until one person with browser developer tools decides to look, and then the private URLs and the entire catalogue are circulating on Telegram within days.
A vendor’s masked-YouTube setup exposed their full library along with the private URLs. They came to us afterwards.

Real protection means Widevine and FairPlay licences issued per playback session, keys the client never holds, tokens that expire, domain restriction, and forensic watermarking that identifies which viewer leaked a file.
What we do instead
We are a direct Google Widevine partner, so the licence pipeline is ours rather than resold. Multi-DRM, forensic watermarking, token authentication and domain locking are on every plan — including the entry tier.
Reason 02 · Support
Support that arrives after the class has ended.
Video is not a background service in education. A stream failing at 7pm means five hundred students who cannot attend, and a support ticket answered next Tuesday is worse than useless.
Vidyakul moved from a specialist DRM provider primarily over support — the technology worked, the response times did not. Insights on India had no account manager at Vimeo at all: nobody to call, nobody who already knew their setup.
Forum IAS evaluated AppSquadz and Vimeo alongside us. They chose TPStreams largely because they had already experienced our support on a different product.
What we do instead
Named customer success architect from the Growth plan up. WhatsApp and email from Pro. People who know your configuration before you have to explain it.
Reason 03 · Capability
DRM as an enterprise upsell, or not at all.
Consumer video platforms treat content protection as a premium add-on. Hyperscaler services treat it as components you assemble yourself. Neither is built for a business whose entire revenue depends on content staying inside the app.
Shankar IAS Academy and Insights on India both moved from Vimeo for DRM. One team running its own streaming stack on Azure came to us for DRM licensing alone — cost was the second conversation, not the first.
What we do instead
Multi-DRM is included on every TPStreams plan. Not a tier, not an add-on, not a conversation with sales.
Reason 04 · Commercial
Foreign billing that procurement cannot process.
For regulated bodies, public-sector organisations and institutions, paying an overseas vendor in dollars is not a preference problem. It is wire transfers, forex variance inside a fixed budget, FEMA documentation and treasury approvals — enough friction to disqualify a vendor before the product is ever evaluated.
NISM, SEBI’s securities-market body, moved from Vimeo. Foreign-currency billing was a primary reason. They took TPStreams first, then our LMS.
What we do instead
Billed in INR. GST invoice. No wire transfers, no forex exposure, no treasury project.
Reason 05 · Economics
The bill nobody was watching.
Delivery, encoding, packaging, origin storage and DRM each bill on a different meter with a different volume curve. No single line looks expensive. The total grows faster than your traffic, and it stays invisible until something forces a look.
Utkarsh Classes ran on AWS for years. Cost was a known concern, but nothing changed until finance set a deadline to cut cloud spend before March. They moved delivery first, then their entire storage.
Insights on India halved their annual spend moving off Vimeo. One ed-tech platform running IVS, CloudFront, MediaConvert and S3 was at $15,000 a month before switching. iDigitalPreneur did not believe they were close to Vimeo’s bandwidth limit — the overage notice arrived two weeks later.

What we do instead
Multi-DRM is included on every TPStreams plan. Not a tier, not an add-on, not a conversation with sales.
Migration
What migration actually involves.
The fear is a six-month project.
The reality has been considerably shorter.
2 months
Vidyakul moved off a specialist DRM platform.
3 months
Utkarsh Classes migrated and scaled to 800 live classes a day.
POC first
Target Board evaluated, ran a proof of concept, then moved.
You point us at your existing library and we pull, transcode and package it. Migration transcoding is free on annual and multi-year plans, so a large back catalogue costs nothing to move. Most teams run both systems in parallel for a week and cut over once playback is verified.
If any of this sounds familiar.
Start with the documentation and a free trial — build against the real API before committing to anything. When you want a cost model, send us last month’s invoice and we will work through it line by line.
