The hard part
Why video is the hardest part of running an LMS
Your LMS handles courses, students and payments. Video is different. It needs encoding, adaptive delivery, protection and live infrastructure, and most LMS platforms were never built to do that well.
01
Paid courses get pirated
Unlisted YouTube links and plain MP4 files can be downloaded, shared on Telegram or resold. Every leaked lecture is lost revenue.
02
Students drop off on slow networks
A single high-bitrate file buffers on mobile data. Without adaptive streaming, students in smaller towns can’t finish lessons.
03
Live classes need a separate tool
Running classes on a meeting app means students leave your platform, and recordings have to be downloaded and re-uploaded by hand.
04
Building it yourself is slow
Stitching together cloud encoding, a CDN, a storage origin and third-party DRM licensing takes months of engineering. The bill grows faster than your traffic.
Video streaming for LMS should be a layer you plug in, not a product you build.
How it works
How to integrate video streaming into your LMS in four steps
You keep your LMS, your student accounts and your checkout. TPStreams handles everything between upload and playback.
- 1
Upload your videos
Drag and drop MP4, MOV or MKV files in the dashboard, push them from your backend through the API, or import Zoom recordings automatically.
- 2
TPStreams encodes and protects them
Each video is transcoded into adaptive formats with per-title encoding, then encrypted with AES-256 and packaged for Widevine and FairPlay DRM.
- 3
Your LMS authorises each student
When an enrolled student opens a lesson, your backend requests a short-lived playback token. TPStreams checks it before releasing the DRM licence, so shared links don’t play.
- 4
Embed the player in your lesson page
Use the embed code on web, or the Android, iOS, React or Flutter SDKs in your app. Webhooks and analytics send watch time and completion back to your LMS.
A copied link or downloaded file has no valid token, so it never gets a key.
Custom-built, or running on Moodle, LearnDash or Tutor LMS. If it can show an embed or call an API, it can stream with TPStreams.

Everything your LMS needs for secure video
DRM that stops course piracy
Every stream is protected with Google Widevine and Apple FairPlay DRM plus AES-256 encryption. TPStreams is a direct Widevine partner. Expiring tokens, per-viewer watermarking and domain restrictions stop link sharing.
DRM and content security →A branded player for your website and app
Embed a customisable player with your logo and colours. Students get subtitles, chapters, speed control and preview thumbnails. Native Android and iOS players support DRM and offline viewing.
Live classes inside your LMS
Stream over RTMP from OBS or any encoder and show the class on your lesson page with a secure embed. Students can pause and rewind with live DVR, and every session is recorded for on-demand viewing.
Live streaming →Video API and webhooks
Automate uploads, organise your library and fetch playback details with REST APIs. Webhooks tell your LMS when a video is ready or a live class ends, so lessons publish without manual work.
Developer docs →Adaptive streaming for every network
Per-title encoding tuned for 4G and unstable networks, delivered over HLS and a global CDN. The player switches quality to match each student’s connection, so lessons keep playing on mobile data.
Estimate your bandwidth →Analytics and AI subtitles
See watch time, completion and drop-off at video, user and playlist level, and push it into your own reports. Generate multilingual subtitles for a whole library in minutes.
Built inside an LMS
Trusted by India’s exam-prep leaders
TPStreams’ streaming technology was first built inside Testpress LMS and became a standalone platform in 2021. It was designed for the problems LMS owners face every day: paid content, large student batches and patchy mobile networks. See all our video hosting for edtech features.

Your options for LMS video hosting, compared
Most LMS owners start with a free host or plan to build on the cloud. Here is how the options compare for paid course content.
| What you need | YouTube (unlisted) | Build it on a cloud provider | TPStreams |
|---|---|---|---|
| DRM protection | No | Possible, with third-party DRM licensing | Widevine and FairPlay included |
| Stops link sharing | No, links can be shared | You build token auth yourself | Expiring tokens and domain locking |

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about video streaming for LMS
Something not covered here? Talk to our team, or read the docs.
What is video streaming for LMS?
It is the infrastructure that hosts, protects and plays course videos inside a learning management system. It covers encoding, adaptive delivery, DRM, the video player and live classes, connected to your LMS through an embed or API.
How do I integrate video streaming into my LMS?
Upload videos to TPStreams through the dashboard or API. When a student opens a lesson, your backend requests a short-lived playback token and your lesson page loads the TPStreams player. On mobile, use the Android, iOS or Flutter SDK instead of the web embed.
Does TPStreams work with Moodle, LearnDash or Tutor LMS?
Yes. Any LMS that can show an embed code can play TPStreams videos, including Moodle, LearnDash, Tutor LMS and custom-built platforms. For token-based DRM playback, your LMS backend calls the TPStreams API.
How does DRM stop students from sharing course videos?
DRM encrypts the video and only releases the decryption key to an authorised player. TPStreams checks a short-lived token from your LMS first, so a copied link or downloaded file will not play anywhere else.
Can I run live classes inside my LMS?
Yes. Stream over RTMP and embed the live player on your lesson page. Students can rewind with live DVR, and each class is recorded automatically as an on-demand lesson.
Do I need to change my LMS to use TPStreams?
No. TPStreams is a video layer, not an LMS. Your courses, students and payments stay where they are.
How long does integration take?
Most teams are streaming DRM-protected video the same day. A full API integration with tokens and webhooks depends on your stack. Migration transcoding is free on annual plans.
